You eventually become the people you choose to surround yourself with. This is often overlooked, but without exception, plays a huge role in your long term success.
Even in math, a positive multiplied by a negative equals a NEGATIVE!
Network, tirelessly, to make sure you're feeding yourself intelligent and motivated information. Your immediate group of friends will either lift you up or tear you down - there isn't a middle ground. Have the courage to cut people out who aren't helping you reach higher levels.
Vision is a decision, not something you're born with! Choose to see a picture, bigger and more important than yourself - one that has the potential to shape those around you. Ignite the fire from the inside-out, knowing you'll touch lives of people who's hand you may never shake.
Be fearless enough to see beyond the majority's view point, understanding the only way to separate from mediocrity is to do what mediocrity can't. Sacrifice what it won't. It's instinct to walk with the masses - it's comfortable, sheltered, safe.
Create a vision beyond safety zones, where risk is normal, doubt doesn't exist, and the 1% Mindset thrives!
Thank you to Max Gray (@alldaymaxgray on Twitter) for making me this picture. He made more, which I'll be sharing later.
Everyone's gone through tough times, where quitting seemed to be the only option! What I guarantee, going through the same thing - success is directly on the other side of quit. Every time I persevered just a few more steps, after wanting to throw in the towel, I was rewarded with the prize.
I now know, without doubt, that my will to strive and commit will always be tested with the quitting option. It seems the more experienced I become, the longer the test lasts ... but I also know that it'll never break me. I've been put through the ringer enough to understand that it's all a test on my dedication to achieve the ridiculous levels of success I dream of.
The minute you feel like you can't take another step ... take another step ... and another one, if needed. Ridiculousness is on the other side of quit!
You're not alone - everyone struggles! Knowing the majority are battling through SOMETHING can help you feel more connected, but still, you must make the decision to persevere.
You choose the path of fight or quit. You decide whether your driving force is stronger than your fear. You look at the clock and realize it doesn't go round-n-round, but rather straight down in millions grains of sand. Your opportunity will eventually run out - your future WILL hit you. What will it look like when it does?
Lose your excuses of the past, and make today your best day!
Mike won before a single punch was thrown. Your "battles" will be won long before they begin - in practice and in your mind. Before one basket is made, pitch thrown, sprint finished, or hole played, you need to KNOW and make your opponents know ... you can't be beaten!
The elite never wait for it to come to them - never hope or wish ... they attack, relentlessly. It'll never be easy, won't come in a hurry, but consistent, aggressive action will guarantee it's arrival!
It's easy to be motivated when coaches are pushing you or friends are watching - what you do by yourself is what ultimately dictates your success. THIS is the time where every 1% Success Story was born, no exception.
Show up earlier, stay later, and do more behind closed doors!
When will you make the choice? When will enough be enough? How much longer will you live the life of mediocrity? If you believe you're not living "less-than," when will you push even harder? THERE'S ALWAYS ANOTHER LEVEL!
You only get this moment to make the necessary changes. Will you allow another day to go by without deciding? Will you put you put your head down on the pillow at night, feeling regret? What will it take? What's your driving force to change?
You have this day, this hour, this minute, this second ... take advantage!
This comes from a 16 year old soon-to-be professional golfer. It's his detailed visual of a tournament he'll be playing in the near future. He's learned that in order for something to become real, physically, it must first become real, mentally.....
I’m in the third round of my winter training camp at Atalaya Golf club in Spain. My targets for the week have been to shoot 5 rounds of level par or better without a 3 putt. So far I am on track to meet these targets after a first round 71 (E) and a good second round 70 (-2).
The 16th hole is my chance to regain momentum from a round which has forced me to grind and I am actually very confident as my short game is hot so I feel if I hit the green I am making birdie. I have just been on the wrong side of luck which sees me standing at +2 with 3 to play. My swing feels very neutral and square which is perfect for the straightforward par 3 measuring at 162 yards. I choose to hit a soft 6 iron with a small fade into a pin tucked on the right which is guarded by a bunker. I start the ball about 12 feet left of the pin and the ball just creeps right on line and is right at it. The ball finishes 5 feet short and leaves me with a putt with about 6 inches of break. I am so confident with my putting I see the line straight away get over the ball and tell myself ‘perfect line, perfect pace’ I hit the putt with exactly these two things and it falls straight into the middle of the hole. I have got one back I need one more birdie and a par to maintain the path to meeting my target. I feel completely in control and am trusting the birdie will come with patience.
The next hole is a 475 yard par 4 that is steeply downhill and the ‘safe option’ is to take a 3 wood and hit a fade down the left leaving a 5 iron into the green. I am stood on the tee pumped! I hit a driver on a very aggressive line over the trees and out of bounds on the right with a 20 yard draw and I absolutely flush it and I have hit this ball with everything I have got to give. I can’t see from the tee where it has landed or how far I have left in but I know it’s perfect. I find my ball in the centre of the fairway with about 140 left in. This is a perfect 9 iron down the hill for me and I know it I hit the ball with a soft fade into the centre of the green to 15 feet and have not hit a perfect shot at the flag but I am not complaining I have my chance to get back to even right there. I get down to the green to see the putt and it is a fairly flat putt with about an inch of break outside the right I decide to take my chances and hit it inside right and firm, this is not a time to leave a putt short. I get over the putt and the only thing I think is ‘firm, inside right’ I hit that exact putt and it holds its line perfectly and slams into the centre of the hole and I have my birdie. Boom!
I am on 18 and I am calming myself down as I get so pumped from the two birdies, I remind myself there is a tee shot to hit and another par 5 to play. I tell myself ‘let’s just make an easy birdie, 4 perfect shots’. The tee shot is a ripped low fade my ‘go to’ shot and it lands perfectly in the centre of the fairway. I am playing it as a 3 shotter as I am taking the water short of the green out of play. I want 95 yards for my third for a perfect 56 degree wedge. I hit a good lay-up but leaving myself 92 yards to the flag. I get over my approach and I am completely immersed in the process of the shot. I can feel the dominance. I hit a perfect little cut into the flag and it lands 9 feet long of the hole leaving me a testing downhill putt for my birdie. I get to the putt and I don’t care about score I just want to hit a perfect putt, I see the line which is about 12 inches left of the cup I stand over the ball and say to myself ‘I only need one from here’ look at the blade of grass 12 inches outside the cup and hit the perfect putt into the centre of the hole.
I finish with 3 birdies and finish with a 70 (-1) I am happy with the way I finished but I feel like I need to go back to the range and work on a few things to make tomorrow even better!
This is a video from the past, but represents the sacrifice needed to reach the top of the 1% Food Chain! I don't care what month, year, or decade it is ... pain will always show it's face, and you'll always have to choose: Punch or run? Predator or prey?
No more whining - stop making excuses and blaming others. There comes a time in your life where you must take ownership of your future. Waiting for the perfect time hasn't worked, and never will - it's never the perfect time. NOW is the only moment you have to make your mark, to break records, to create ridiculousness.
It's too easy to complain about the what-ifs! Decide this is your time, and nothing will stop you ... period!
Today's post is about Joe Flacco, not because he won the Super Bowl, but instead because he demonstrated a self belief unmatched. Last year, he turned down a "great" contract, believing he'd prove to his team's ownership he deserved a ridiculous one. He believed he was an NFL top 5 quarterback, and deserved that type of money. By rejecting the contract that was on the table, he was risking it all - a poor showing in 2012-2013, not only wouldn't he receive a top 5 cash, but he may be offered less than the original sum previously offered.
He didn't focus on "What if I fail!" His self belief ran so deep, there was no question he'd prove that he belonged in the same sentence as the elite quarterbacks of today. Some would say Flacco was gambling with his future, but undoubtedly, he'd say it was a sure thing!
This type of confidence can't be taught - examples can only be shown and explained how invaluable it is as you strive for 1% Success. Joe Flacco turned down great for ridiculous. This season's performance proved it wasn't a gamble!
Giavanni has a dream .... and won't stop until it's achieved. Along the way, however, he's inspiring millions of others to CATCH their dreams.
One day. One step.
Don't quit, no matter how long it takes or how much struggle you must endure. Use any hate as fuel and motivation to prove them wrong. The only person that can stop you is the one looking back in the mirror. One day.
If you have the correct information and are dedicated to putting in thousands of hours, time is the only thing standing between you and your goals.
Lose the idea that is should happen now, next week, or next month. It'll happen when you accept the fact that it won't happen now. Little by little, your dream will piece itself together, until BOOM ...
A 1% Separation Factor is the ability to wait out the storm, while the 99 thrash and flail, unwilling to sit still.
This topic is so important, it must be repeated! I've received many emails lately, complaining about how difficult things are, and why moving towards goals sometimes feels impossible. Although, I can sympathize with each and every one, and definitely understand how tough life can be, one fact still remains ...
We only have two choices: Predator or Prey. No matter what happens to us, how unfair things are, or who's hating on us, we either sit and wait to be devoured, or we attack fearlessly.
All the reasons "why it's too hard" mean nothing in the end. There comes a time in everyone's life where enough has to be enough - standing up and fighting becomes the only way to survive. Make a choice the second you finish reading this - quit every excuse you regularly make, and become the predator!
Your dreams should inspire others. They should motivate the person silently watching to strive after his dream - one that he thought impossible to attain. While you're putting in the work for your personal goals, remember the achievement of those goals may change someone's life!
If pain isn't a daily experience, you're not doing enough. It needs to scare you - make you wake up every morning and give extra thought to it's achievement. Your bar needs to be raised past the point of the 99's wildest imagination. If you want to become the 1%, you must be willing to shoulder a load of expectation most wouldn't dream about. This either frightens you into submission or excites you into action.
"Easy" will never be a part of the equation, but "worth it" will always be there to celebrate with at the end. To join the elite group of 1%rs, fear must be something that haunted you in the past, now giving way to risk. You must be able to dive into an empty pool, knowing somehow, someway, water will appear before you hit bottom. Call it faith or self belief, but possession of it IS mandatory.
Are you ready? Do you have what it takes? Game time!
When it comes to reaching the next level, I'm black and white on the subject ... you either do what's uncomfortable or remain where you are. You sacrifice easy for difficult or continue complaining about what you don't have. Dive into a pool that has no water in it, knowing water will somehow appear before hitting bottom, or climb back down and wallow in fear.
You either do or you don't, period!
Will you complain about what others have achieved, focusing on how "unfair" the world is, or will you be an example for your kids and peers, showing them you attain what you work for? Luck doesn't exist - it's a result of your consistent thoughts, efforts, and ability to never quit in the face of adversity. You make your own luck.
There's no grey area when striving for a plateau the 99 can't fathom reaching. You either will or you won't. The 1% only have one option!
Often, the most difficult thing to do on the path to "ridiculousness" is making that first committed decision. Once you've chosen and committed every fiber in your body to your goal ... BOOM ... it's going to happen for you!
If you want new, you gotta DO new. If your goals are achieving what the majority can't ... you gotta do what the majority won't!
Everyone wants to be "successful," but very few will sacrifice old habits to make it happen. It's not supposed to be easy ... it's supposed to be agonizing. Accept the fact that rising to the top is what reaching the top is all about - the highs and lows, laughs and tears are what makes the trip so exhilarating. Sure, sticking out your chest to break the finish line is worth the fight ... but remember, just on the other side of that finish line is another race. It never stops. You never "get it." You only get better AT it, improving the times of your race - the efficiency of your journey.
Think differently, act differently, create a lifestyle in which only the 1% can relate. Surround yourself with like minds who push and support you during the pain and struggle. This isn't a mantra or a resolution ... it's a way of life!
Statistics don't make you ... you make the statistics!
They're made from people who don't believe they can go beyond what the numbers have said for years. Only a small, special few have come along and said to themselves, "I don't care what the stats have said in the past, I can and will change them!" Why can't that be you?
If you don't believe you can go above and beyond what others have done in the past, regardless of the odds, you've instantly limited your success. I used to believe in statistics and only thought I could reach a specific level in my life, but over time and consistent battle against that instinct, I've proven myself and THEM wrong!
Don't believe what they tell you - if you want something, and can't stop thinking about it 25/8, 366, then you must attack. Statistics were created by those who couldn't see beyond impossible. The 1%, however, are Driven By Impossible. Be the 1%!
